Carl Bechstein Competition

Competitions are fun! Every year since 2014, the Carl Bechstein Foundation organizes a competition to boost the interest of children and youth in making music. The event is held in the charming Britz Manor in Berlin-Neukölln.

Purpose of the competition

The Carl Bechstein Foundation seeks to promote the joy of piano playing as well as musical collaboration. Towards these goals, it organizes various types of duo competitions, for example for piano duos or a piano paired with a string instrument. However, the 2017 competition was exclusively for piano soloists, while the 2018 edition will be reserved for young jazz pianists.

Members of the judging panel are always noted musicians and music instructors who have rendered outstanding services in promoting young pianists.

In addition to the regular first, second and third prizes, the Carl Bechstein Foundation also awards special prizes each year for the best interpretation of contemporary pieces that are specially commissioned on the occasion of the competition. In doing so, the Foundation not only motivates young pianists to get involved with contemporary music, but also expands the repertory of works written for children and young people.

The following institutions are sponsoring the competition: Kulturstiftung Schloss Britz, Musikschule Paul Hindemith Berlin-Neukölln, the magazine Neue Musikzeitung will be reporting on competition events.
