Carl Bechstein Competition
The second Carl Bechstein Competition for Children and Youths will be held on October 16 through 18, 2015, at the Britz Manor in Berlin-Neukölln. Duos of Piano and one String instrument are invited to compete.
Purpose of the competition
The Carl Bechstein Competition aims to reward talented young pianists and support them in the long term. In order to encourage young people to make chamber music together, duos – consisting of piano and one string instrument – can also register for the 2015 competition. Musicians up to age 18 who have been living in Germany for at least six months are eligible to compete. Deadline for application is September 15th, 2015.
Participants must present a repertoire of at least two pieces from different epochs. The top-class jury will include renowned musicians and professors.
In addition to first, second and third prizes, the Carl Bechstein Foundation will be awarding a special prize for the best interpretation of two works from contemporary composers. On the occasion of the Carl Bechstein competition, the Foundation commissioned such works from young composers, all of them laureates of the Jugend komponiert competition, a nationwide event put on by the Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland e.V. association. The special prizes for duos are cash awards of 500 euros.
The following institutions are sponsoring the competition: Kulturstiftung Schloss Britz, Musikschule Paul Hindemith Berlin-Neukölln, and Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland e.V., the magazine Neue Musikzeitung will be reporting on competition events.
