Another piano of the project “Pianos for Elementary Schools” was handed over to the 35th elementary school in Berlin-Lichtenberg in the presence of the district mayor Michael Grunst.
For many years, schools in this district have been working closely together with the resident Shostakovich Music School: The schools’ cooperation includes free basic musical education (MGA) for all first- and second-grade students, integrated into their morning schedules. Furthermore, interested young musicians from the elementary school have already had the opportunity to receive individual instrumental lessons in the afternoon since October 2020. In addition to piano and guitar, instruments such as ukulele, recorder and accordion are also offered for a fee. The excellently equipped music rooms of the 35th School are used for this purpose, which now also include a piano from the Carl Bechstein Foundation.
“For many years, our music school has been pursuing the goal of paving the way to music for even the youngest children through contact with musical instruments. With success: the cooperation with the 35th school is already the seventh cooperation of the Shostakovich Music School with elementary schools in Lichtenberg. For the important music educational work that is done in our district, the donation of the Carl-Bechstein-Foundation means recognition and confirmation.”
