Special Prize at Landeswettbewerb Jugend musiziert 2025

Kateryna Yurieva was born in Brovary (Kyiv region), Ukraine, in 2013. She began piano lessons at the age of six (teacher Yevheniia Demchenko). In 2022, Kateryna’s family moved from Ukraine to Berlin. Kateryna continued her musical education at the Paul Hindemith Neukölln Music School as part of the gifted program for children and young people in Wei Chen’s piano class. In 2024, Kateryna won first prize in the ensemble competition at the Neukölln Music School in a duo with clarinetist Tayo Viohl. That same year, the duo also won first prize (24 points) in the regional and state competition “Jugend musiziert.” In her free time, Kateryna enjoys cooking, painting, and riding her bike.
Tayo Viohl, born in Berlin in 2013, has been playing the clarinet since 2020 at the Paul Hindemith Music School in Neukölln in Susanne Pudig’s clarinet class. Since 2023, he has been part of the music school’s gifted program. In his first participation in the “Jugend musiziert” competition in 2024, he was awarded 24 points (1st prize) in the solo clarinet category in both the regional and state competitions. This year, he again scored 24 points (1st prize) in the regional and state competitions together with pianist Kateryna Yurieva in the piano and woodwind duo category. The duo also won first prize in the 2024 ensemble competition of the Neukölln Music School. In addition to various classical projects, Tayo’s repertoire also includes brass and pop music. With the music school band “The Gretschers,” he also successfully participated in “Jugend musiziert” for the second time.
