Carl Bechstein Aid for Ukraine gGmbH
The Carl Bechstein Foundation includes a non-profit subsidiary that has set itself the goal of supporting Ukraine. The purpose of Carl Bechstein Aid for Ukraine gGmbH is to provide humanitarian aid to people in Ukraine who have been injured or damaged as a result of war and to support people who have fled Ukraine because of the war there and its consequences and are in need of help. In addition, the new company can help to rebuild institutions such as hospitals, schools and universities that were damaged by the war.
Last but not least, Carl Bechstein Aid for Ukraine gGmbH is intended to help preserve cultural life, especially musical life, in Ukraine. This is to be achieved in particular by supporting the construction, reconstruction and equipping of concert halls in Ukraine, provided that these are not operated by commercial companies but by non-profit or public-law organizations. The Carl Bechstein Foundation had already donated a concert grand piano to the Kharkiv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater before the new subsidiary was founded.
The Carl Bechstein Aid for Ukraine gGmbH is currently collecting funds for the purchase of instruments for the Kharkiv I.P.Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts. Prof. Nataliya Govorukhina, Rector of the Academy, explains:
“Today living in Kharkiv, we are absolutely certain that only the ability to empathize and listen to others can change our world for the better.
We realized this in the first days of the war when the buildings of our university with a century-old history were severely damaged by shelling. When students and teachers were forced to leave the city. When we musicians, actors, directors couldn’t understand what to do in this new reality – being neither soldiers, nor doctors, nor engineers. What to do if we want to be here now, in our country, in our city?
In this difficult time, any help, even the smallest donation, brings us closer to the dream of returning to the walls of our Alma mater!“
